Stupid Writing Quirks #1

While revising my latest NaNoWriMo novel last month, I noticed that yet again, I’d engaged in a bad habit I don’t even remember forming.

The draft had way too many chapters where almost every sentence is its own paragraph.

Even when there’s no particular reason to start a new paragraph, and probably lots of good reasons not to do it.

As if I thought I was writing an epic poem or something.

Like the way I’m writing this entry right now.

One line at a time.

Just dangling out there as if it bore no relation to what came before or what’s coming after.

Seriously, self, why do you do that?

It serves no purpose, and it looks really silly.

And it’s distracting as hell.

And it makes for a big mess to clean up during revisions, and it’s not like I ever need help with things to clean up during revisions.

I’ll try to do better next November.

This is part of the Ninja Writers May Post-A-Day Challenge. If you enjoyed this, I’d ❤ a recommend heart. You can find a listing of my fiction on Medium here, and I blog occasionally over at my personal website.
